Corte Madera, CA – Terra Insurance Company is now distributing its products via selected insurance agents throughout the United States. The new approach is supplementing the direct-marketing strategy Terra has employed exclusively since its creation in 1968. Terra provides a variety of professional-liability insurance coverages principally for geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction-materials engineering and testing professionals.
According to Terra President and CEO David L. Coduto, “Our new approach is already bearing fruit; we’ve welcomed several new owner/insureds thanks to agents and brokers that are part of the Professional Liability Agents Network. I was part of the group that established PLAN when I worked at DPIC Companies in the early 1980s. I am delighted to be working with PLAN members once again.”
Terra is the nation’s second-oldest professional-liability insurer serving the design- and environmental-professional marketplace. It specializes in geoprofessional firms whose annual revenues range to more than $100 million.
Although Terra is not as large as many of the insurers with which it competes, its “capital adequacy” – i.e., its ability to meet its financial obligations, especially those related to claims – is the highest by far, as reported by A. M. Best Company, the internationally respected insurance-company rating organization. Insurers that achieve a Best Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR) score of at least 175 are eligible to receive an actual or implied Best’s top rating of A++ (“Superior”). Among 30 of Terra’s top competitors, the median BCAR score is 235. Terra’s BCAR score of 619 is more than two-and-a-half times that and is believed to be one of the highest of all insurers nationwide.
