2017 Earnings Release

June 30, 2017

Terra Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group (Terra) is pleased to report that its book value per share rose to a record high of $408.77 on unaudited earnings per share of $9.39 at June 30, 2017. Terra has generated earnings in each calendar year of its existence, as well as the period covering 117 consecutive calendar quarters.

During the six months ended June 30, 2017, A.M. Best Company reaffirmed Terra’s “A, Excellent, V” rating. According to A.M. Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio Analysis (BCAR), Terra remains the highest rated PL carrier in the insurance industry with a BCAR score that exceeds the industry’s mean BCAR score by about 230%. BCAR measures an insurer's most important function: meeting its ongoing obligations to its policyholders.

Terra is a strong American company and since its formation under U.S. Federal law in 1988, the return on Terra's common stock has well exceeded the appreciation of the DOW, NASDAQ, S&P500 and other major stock indices over the same period. A $25,000 investment in Terra in 1988 is now worth over one million dollars.

Terra traces its history to 1968, when it was formed as a foreign-based captive insurance carrier. Terra’s founders recognized that an important path to operating success would include the creation of a separate organization that dealt with the business practices, loss prevention and risk management issues of the profession. As a result and at roughly the same time, those founders also created ASFE (now called GBA).

Terra is a well-run and reliable insurer as well as an outstanding insurance consultancy and service provider. Terra insures about one billion dollars of its policyholder's revenues annually and specializes in insuring geotechnical, civil and environmental risks.
