Longo Elected to Terra Insurance Company Board
Corte Madera, CA - Daniel G. Longo, P.E. has been elected to the board of directors of Terra Insurance Company, the nation's highest-rated risk retention group specializing in professional liability insurance for engineering and environmental firms.
A New Jersey native, Mr. Longo has more than 40 years of engineering experience, 25 with Geotechnical Consultants Inc. (Westerville, Ohio), the firm he founded in 1979. Geotechnical Consultants Inc.(GCI) employs about 70 individuals and has a branch office in Charlotte, NC.
A registered professional engineer, Mr. Longo has been manager or principal-in-charge of more than 1,000 projects. Several of GCI's current projects include the New Jersey State Aquarium (situated on a brownfield site) and a major reconstruction and addition to Milwaukee's Bay Shore Mall, located on a reclaimed industrial landfill. GCI was also involved with the Morgantown (West Virginia) Mall, placed on up to 500 feet of fill, and The Waterfront, a mixed-use development in Pittsburgh, on the site of the old Homestead Steel mill.
Mr. Longo earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (now the New Jersey Institute of Technology). After graduation he joined the New Jersey State Highway Department and attended evening classes at his alma mater, which in 1967 awarded him a Master's Degree in soils engineering.
As a risk retention group, Terra is owned by its insureds. The company has some 90 policy holder/owners, and is rated A (excellent) by A. M. Best Co., the internationally recognized insurance company rating authority. No other risk retention group specializing in geoprofessional/environmental liability protection is rated as high as Terra.
Terra was originally established in 1969 and is one of the nation's oldest and most successful professional liability insurance companies. Its insureds range in size from less than $500,000 per year in gross fees to more than $150 million.
