Corte Madera, CA - "You couldn't pay me to go
there." Just about no one says that about New
Orleans. Nonetheless, Terra Insurance Company will
pay $1,000 to each of its insured firms that sends at
least one representative to the April 15-17, 2010
Spring (Annual) Meeting of ASFE/The Geoprofessional
Business Association, at the Loews New Orleans
Hotel. Terra will conduct a shareholders meeting at
the same facility on Friday, April 16.
According to Terra President and CEO David L.
Coduto, "We're really pleased to be able to provide
this incentive. We're not doing it to give our
owner/insureds a treat, although we certainly expect
they'll have a good time. The fact is, they derive a
tremendous amount of business and professional
benefit from the educational programming ASFE
provides, and also by networking with peers. What
they learn helps them increase their business and
lower their exposure to claims. In other words, our
financial support saves us money in the long run. And,
frankly, we also like the idea of supporting New
Orleans. No American city has had to endure what
New Orleans has gone through."
Although Terra has not yet announced its 2009
financial performance to the general public, the
company has a reputation for setting new records
every year. Mr. Coduto commented, "Given how poorly
the industry as a whole did in 2009, just breaking even
would be a good result for a number of insurers. Not
for Terra, though. In fact, I believe we'll soon be able to
announce that Terra has set more than just one new
record. I'm continually astounded by how effectively
our owner/insureds operate their businesses and
how profitable our company - their company, too -
operates as a result."
Terra provides a variety of professional liability
insurance products to geoprofessional consulting
firms that gross from $300,000 to more than $100
million annually. A.M. Best Company - the
internationally recognized insurance-company rating
organization - has for several years recognized Terra
as "the highest-rated risk-retention group in the United
States." (Terra's score on A.M. Best's "Capital
Adequacy Ratio Tests" is one of the highest of all
insurers - not just professional liability insurers -
doing business in the United States.)
